Why Is My Polygon Transaction Pending?

A Polygon transaction that stays pending longer than 5 minutes is almost always caused by one of three issues: a gas fee set too low, a nonce conflict with a previous transaction, or sudden network congestion. Here is how to diagnose and fix each one.

Common Causes of Pending Polygon Transactions

1. Gas Fee Set Too Low

This is the most common cause. Validators prioritize transactions offering higher gas fees. If you submitted your transaction when gas rates were low but the market spiked afterward, your transaction may sit in the mempool indefinitely.

Fix: Check the current gas rate at Polygonscan Gas Tracker. Resubmit your transaction with a higher gas price using the same nonce value (see below).

2. Nonce Conflict

Polygon processes transactions in the exact order they are submitted from a wallet, tracked by a nonce value. If a previous transaction from your wallet is stuck, all subsequent transactions will wait until that earlier one resolves.

Fix: On Polygonscan, find the earliest pending transaction from your wallet. Note its nonce number. Resubmit that specific transaction with a higher gas price and the same nonce. This cancels the old one and replaces it.

3. Network Congestion

During high-demand events (NFT mints, token launches), the entire Polygon network can become congested and confirmation times extend. Even Fast-mode transactions may take longer than expected.

Fix: Wait for congestion to subside, or resubmit with the Fastest gas preset to jump the queue.

Step-by-Step: How to Resubmit a Stuck Polygon Transaction

  1. Go to Polygonscan.com and search your wallet address
  2. Find the pending transaction and note its Nonce value
  3. Open your wallet (e.g., MetaMask) and initiate a new transaction to yourself (zero value) — or the original transaction again
  4. Set the same Nonce value as the stuck transaction
  5. Set the gas price higher than the current network rate (use Polygonscan Gas Tracker)
  6. Confirm — this replaces the stuck transaction

When your transaction is pending, you have three options: wait longer; cancel it by sending zero MATIC to yourself with the same nonce and a higher gas price; or speed it up by resubmitting with higher gas.

How Long Should I Wait Before Acting?

If your Polygon transaction is still pending after 5–10 minutes, it is time to investigate. Most legitimate Polygon transactions under normal conditions confirm in under 60 seconds. A stuck transaction after 10 minutes almost always requires intervention.
